I’ve bought 2 of these from blueairoutlet.com, and one directly through the blueair website. The one from the blueair site and the most recent one I bought here have smelled strongly like plastic, and the smell persists for at least a month, if not the entire life of the filter. I do not feel very good about this filter because the first time I used the plastic smelling one (the first one I bought), I felt a mild numbness in my face that I’ve experienced once before when subjected to burning plastic fumes while on a plane with a malfunctioning heater (the plane was emergency-landed). This being the 3rd or 4th purifier I tried, and an expensive one at that, I decided to try to “power through” and hopefully the smell would go away. It never did. The second filter I bought seemed to smell fine so I thought it was just a one time thing. But now the 3rd one has the persistent plastic smell again. The whole experience has left me feeling like I’ve wasted hundreds of dollars on a really expensive purifier that relies on questionable filters that may in the long run be unhealthy to use. Nowadays every time I turn it on I worry I am subjecting myself to nerve-damaging chemical fumes. I just don’t trust it anymore and I would strongly recommend another brand of purifier.
